As library media specialists who have to work with an entire building full of different personalities, we have all been there with unreasonable and last minute requests. It is much better to say NO (nicely) with an explanation of why the request cannot be filled "as is". I would not worry about a teacher "bad mouthing" me in the teacher's room or that saying no would lead to a lack of future collaboration with faculty. We need to be flexible, professional, have respect for ourselves, as well as others and set priorities for our work that best serves the greatest number of people. There are times to help out colleagues in a bind, and there are times to set appropriate limits. Most of us truly want to be helpful and that is conveyed on a regular basis so we should assert ourselves when we need to and not worry about those that do not value our time with requests such as this one.
