When I ask the students for folktale names - the Hulk and Little Mermaid come up.
I just say that they are modern stories, and someday they might be folktales.

According to Ask.com

" A story or legend forming part of an oral tradition."

I would argue no, The Hulk is not a folktale. He was created by Stan Lee
when he worked for Marvel Comics. He also became a TV series and Movie.

See below from the Stan Lee web site.

"THE START OF ³THE MARVEL AGE OF COMICS²

Stan Lee, unchained, next went on to create the Hulk, who enjoyed an initial
smashing metamorphosing success. Stan Lee¹s creativity was in full bloom now
and he marched Marvel on with yet another of his creations<Spider-Man. "
