Each week I let one of my third grade special ed girls check her class's library
books out, as I hover nearby and keep an eye on her classmates. Today one of the
boys said to here, "Wow! You could be a librarian!" I gave him my best librarian
glare and said "There's a LOT more to it than just checking out books!" He laughed
and said he knew that.
Whew! For a minute I saw myself being replace with a nine year old!!

As we all know National Library Week is next week and I have a week's
worth of fun activities planned, like Pin the Glasses on the Librarian,
a game day, etc. As I was sitting in my office during my planning
period I heard one teacher say to another teacher AND our
vice-principle... "They might as well just CLOSE the library!" and
laugh. Meanwhile, this is also a teacher who refuses to use the library
at ALL.
I'm really, really tired of those around me who seem to have some weird
impression of what libraries are or "should" be. I just wanted to tell
her to mind her own beeswax!
