I know exactly what you all mean. I get comments like that all the time...as if checking out books is all I have to do. When they mention that, I offer to swap jobs for a day. It'd be a relief to JUST teach one subject to ONE grade. I tell people that being a librarian is like being a full time teacher and running a small business at the same time and in the same space. That usually gives them something to think about! Not to mention all my "free time" enables me to serve on every bloomin' committee in the district. If it's out there, I'm on it. I'm sure some of you get the same treatment! Talk about stereotypes - when I first went back for my Masters of Lib. Science, my husband just rolled his eyes. His concept of a librarian was someone who sat behind a desk and said "shhhhh" all day. I could have hit him! (Truthfully, that's what some did when he was in school in the 60s, but times have surely changed!) He's been properly enlightened, but still refuses to come spend a day with me to SEE why I'm so tired when I get home! Keep your chins up. I only have 37 more days of school until summer vacation!!!
