My daughter is an Elem Ed/Special Ed. major at the University of Ky. She was required to take a children's lit class, and they were required to read a variety of age groups and genres. It seemed to be a very well organized class, and she knows her Newbery and Caldicott titles pretty well. They were encouraged to read a great deal of multi-cultural titles, and had to read close to100 books. She tried to read many of the newer books, but read some old favorites, too.
