Get some simple crafts that they can do together. From a crafts store, get
the school to purchase some of the foam flowers, etc. that are self-stick
and have the older kids help the little ones to decorate boxes or decorate
cards for their moms for Mother's Day. Write Mother's Day books together.
Play simple games together. Make pair-share reading a part of the 75
minutes. Create centers in the library and have the groups rotate during
the time period. Ring a little bell or a chime to signal change of
activity.

Subject: [LM_NET] FW: combined classes - what to do?

>

Good morning everyone,

Because of our state testing schedule I must combine 27 5th graders and 26
first graders for a class of 75 minutes. I must also combine 59 second and
third graders.
Do you have any ideas for what I can do with that many students in the media
center for that length of time"? I don't want to plop them in front of a
movie. Last year we tried to have older read to younger, teacher read, and
so on it but it was too long to sustain the little kids' attention.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
