My rule during checkout time is that everyone must be either looking for
a book to check out or reading something. They can read the newspaper,
a magazine or the book they are checking out. If a student is acting
out and not following the rules, I have copies of short stories that I
give them to read. Usually, it only takes one time of having to read
what I choose for them to motivate them to find their own reading
materials!
