I like both of these titles.
 
Little by Little.  Stewart Amber. (Orchard Books, 2008) A little otter wants more 
than anything to be able to swim.  With encouragement from his sister, he learns 
the skill one step at a time.
 
Three Cheers for Tacky.  Helen Lester.  (Houghton Mifflin, 1994) Tacky the penguin, 
less graceful than his friends, is determined to do well in a cheerleading 
competition.
