[LM_NET] TARGET: The Three Wise Men and gift-giving occasions

I am focusing a unit of work for Year 5 students on gift giving and I have a couple 
of questions
that I need help with please ...
1. What is the chapter and verse reference in The Bible for the three wise men 
arriving and giving
their gifts to Baby Jesus?

2. What are the other key occasions that countries and cultures exchange gifts 
throughout the year,
and what are the traditional customs associated with these?  I am well aware that 
Christmas is not
universal and I would like the children to explore other perspectives.  

3.I am also trying to get them to understand that Christmas was not always the 
commercial indulgence
it is now, and that more modest gifts were given in times past.  I know an orange 
was a traditional
gift for British children, and one of the children asked me about the significance 
of the sugarplums
mentioned in "Twas the Night before Christmas' which I read them.


Any help will be much appreciated.
