Dear Jennie FYI, in Australia you get a B.Ed after four years study in the education field, and this includes a significant amount of prac teaching including a 10 week internship in your 4th year. If you have a BA or a BSc or similar (also four-year degrees) you can do an extra one year to add a B.Ed but that also includes a ten-week internship. The element of prac teaching in the qualification is imperative. A Masters here is at least another year or two of study on top of that! Many teacher librarians have their Masters (I have two + a Grad. Dip) and more teachers, especially those going up the administration ladder, are reaching that level but it is still rare. Apart from anything else, there is no salary incentive or acknowledgement. I was paid the same regardless. So perhaps it is more than Canadians who have a raw deal!
