The question was whether Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli should be added to my leveled reader collection in the grades 3-5 school. The set of Stargirl paperbacks was a donation from a teacher. The book is not on our "regular"/student collection shelves. This would be a "literature circle" choice offered by teachers to students. The responses I got were about 50/50. Some of us have it in out K-5 libraries and find it to be popular among the mature 4th and 5th grade readers. Most who've read it agree there's nothing too shocking in it for young readers, but the emotional level of the characters is definitely at the MS/HS level.
