I did this last year and had some students who were allergic to some of the contents. In order to allow them to participate in the presentation without jeopardizing their health, I created "pre-packaged" snacks that did not include the peanuts, chocolates, or wheat-content that was in the main mixture. The other students were able to have the full-content (that I spooned in snack baggies after the presentation and gave to their teachers to distribute once school was dismissed---we cannot give out "treats" to student during the regular school day, so we have to wait until school is dismissed.) You might want to consider carob chips as a substitute for the chocolate chips. You should also be sure to NOT include sunflower seeds in the packages for those with peanut allergies---since some peanuts and sunflowers are often processed together and there could be some contamination with the sunflower seeds exposed to the peanuts. Also, check to see if you can substitute pecans, walnuts, or almonds for the peanuts---since sometimes those who are allergic to peanuts (grown underground) are not allergic to nuts grown on trees. If you're not sure...just don't offer peanuts. Good luck! ~Shonda On Dec 31, 2007 1:37 PM, Sue Marley <susan.marley@gmail.com> wrote: > This is the time of year when I make Biography Hash to introduce a biography > report to fourth graders - last year I heard from the nurse and principal > after serving this delightful and entertaining treat.
