Well, my thought on this: I am not a guy, but I still seem to often be the "tech guy". I am officially a single campus and elementary libraries tech (campus technology contact is the actual title, means we fix what we can, triage, coordinate with district techs) . However, I have been known to get questions from other campuses, other librarians, and even other campus techs. So I don't think it's your gender but your knowledge -- and I WELL feel your pain. At times it's crossed my mind that I should never have let folks know I have an aptitude for technology. For reference, by the way, I have been teaching 30 years, just got into the tech part the last 8 years or so when I switched to librarian from classroom. As to the one who mentioned why aren't teachers willing to learn: some are, particularly the younger ones coming in, but I also know some good willing to learn older ones. My 2 cents Betsy Ruffin librarian-technologist Cleburne ISD Cleburne, TX betsy.ruffin@cleburne.k12.tx.us Stephen Abram, vice-president of Micromedia Ltd., Canada's largest electronic publisher. "But although technology is vastly changing their roles, librarians are still seen as "trusted agents" and their role as navigators of the Internet will be critical to everyday life and the future economy." It is the policy of Cleburne ISD not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender or handicap in its school programs, services, or activities. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
