I appreciate all the responses about how your day is spent.... We have a VERY active library at my middle school. I have a completely flexible schedule, which is fabulous. I do literature circle groups, book discussion groups, before and after school activities, a HUGE Teen Read Week, etc. I generally teach a mini-lesson to 7th graders on the Alamo, and one for 8th graders on Valley Forge, etc. I've worked with some teachers on vocabulary, some on using a thesaurus, etc.---generally depending on what the teacher requests. I just don't find myself doing too many stand alone "library lessons"---which is why I want to create the grid. I find that I am incorporating these lessons into the work that teachers and collaborate on---with the few teachers that REALLY collaborate well---and then perhaps neglecting to get to them with some groups. The thing that I do most regularly with library classes (as opposed to literature circle groups) is book-talk. I feel really good about what goes on in my library-but I definitely need to "shore up" some cracks in the dam.
