Hi everyone,
I know there have been similar questions regarding how to go about
cataloging/barcoding magazines in Destiny, but none of the responses to
those other questions quite solve my problem...

My aide and I like to give each individual issue of a magazine a "real"
barcode number (as opposed to a general barcode on a manilla envelope or a
temporary title). I've been going bonkers trying to come up with a way to
catalog the magazines so that they have all of the following printed on
the barcode:

1) a call number that makes sense

2) the magazine title
AND

3) the issue date.

In the past, my aide has always used the issue date as the call number,
but that gets to be a mess anytime I'm trying to look up materials or run
reports based on call numbers (as we then have call numbers that are
January, Jan./Feb., Nov./Dec., December 2006, etc. and all the various
issues of magazines are all over the place. It makes no sense.) I would
like to have the call numbers be something along the lines of MAG Nat (for
National Geographic Kids) or MAG Ame (for American Girl), and then the
individual issues as copies under each magazine title. This organizes
things quite neatly. However, I have been unable to do this AND have a
place for the issue month(s) and year that will print on the barcode or
show on a report. So the downside is that if we print a sheet of
barcodes, we can't see offhand which one goes with what month, or if I
print a report, I can't tell which copy of National Geographic Kids is a
particular month or year--it just shows a dozen copies of National
Geographic Kids.

I don't know if my explanation has many any sense at all, and it's quite
possible that there is no way to do this the way I want; however, I
thought I would consut the masses before I gave up. Any thoughts, ideas,
and/or flashes of brilliance would be appreciated. :) Happy Friday!
