[LM_NET] Title needed - one more try

        Sorry for this  2nd post, but I didn't get much response the first time.  
  A teacher of mine is trying to find a coming-of-age book her husband loved as a 
young teen.  What she does know is that the setting is Alaska; the boy has an Inuit 
friend and a Vulcan shotgun, which he shoots at a bear, making it very angry and 
endangering lives.  We think it was probably published 1977 or before.
