Happy End of Summer (especially to those of us headed back to school in a week), I just spent three days at a seminar at the Georgia Museum of Art on the campus of the University of Georgia attending an NEH teacher seminar as one of the recipients of the Picturing America grant. Lindsay Mikal, Assistant Director of Media Relations for NEH, asked me to pass along to all of you the info that there will be another application window opening for this grant. You may apply between August 4 and October 31, 2008 to receive copies of American works of art to use at your school. If any of you have the opportunity to attend an NEH seminar, I strongly urge you to do so. We all felt very spoiled--the food was fabulous and the programing was excellent. We spent time in the museum studying the collections and viewing the historic buildings on campus. William Eiland, the Director of the Georgia Museum of Art, and C. L. Morehead, who collects the work of Lamar Dodd (as well as other artists' work), generously opened up their homes to us so we could view their personal artworks. A number of speakers proposed strategies for using the artworks in the classroom and worked with us to further develop those strategies. Those of us who attended the seminar will be completing our own lesson plans, which will also be posted on the website. For more information, visit the Picturing America website at: http://picturingamerica.neh.gov/ Even if you don't choose to apply for the grant, you're sure to find some valuable resources on the website and at Edsitement http://edsitement.neh.gov/ which is also maintained by the National Endowment for the Humanities. -- Cheryl Youse, MLS Media Specialist Colquitt County High School cyouse@gmail.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
