Hi Everyone, The IASL Conference is in Berkeley this year - my PhD research which will be presented at the conference is right on this topic - just how do the Net Generation (Generation Y) actually use technology and why is this important for future generations? Would love to see you there, if only for a day registration. It's never to late. http://www.iasl-online.org/index.htm :) BC Vice President, Advocacy & Promotion, IASL: www.iasl-online.org LIS@ECU: http://www.chs.ecu.edu.au/portals/LIS/index.php Transforming Information and Learning Conference http://conferences.scis.ecu.edu.au/TILC2007/ Barbara Combes, Lecturer School of Computer and Information Science Edith Cowan University, Perth Western Australia Ph: (08) 9370 6072 Email: b.combes@ecu.edu.au "Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation." Jeri- Unfortunately many teachers have the same attitude about their kids "superior" knowledge of the Internet. Then they are shocked when they receive a paper almost wholly plagiarized with few resources listed from these same kids. Our jobs are to convince administrators that every student, no matter how much time they spend online, needs to be educated in the ethical use of Internet resources as well as how to critically evaluate a website. My favorite story about Internet abuse perpetrated by an educator was the teacher in my elementary school who taught kids how to cut and paste online information (from web pages and online encyclopedias) into a Word document but never mentioned citing resources or even listing where they found the information. You can imagine the classroom teachers response when they received a research paper without any sources cited!!!
