Dear Sandy
One of the things our ESL teacher did was organise a group of parents who could
speak the various
languages (at one stage we had over 50 languages) to come into the school and tell
the traditional
tales in that language. It was very well received by all and demonstrated that we
acknowledged and
valued their heritage and ancestry. The library was the venue. I also sought to
build a collection
of traditional tales from their countries so we could all share - they loved to
retell them to us.

I worked closely with the ELS teacher and wherever possible, I purchased stories in
their languages
and they loved these too. I also got volunteers to create a poster about their
country for
display when we celebrated their national day.

Please post a hit because this is something we all need to explore.
