Original post: I have a K-5 library that needs tables and chairs to seat a class of
24, primarily grades K-3, in a relatively small space with a carpeted floor. The
space requires rectangular tables or several round tables. Does anyone have tables
and chairs that they really love? What company are they from and, if possible,
approximately what size?

Thanks to all who responded with the excellent suggestions below:

I highly recommend Sauder’s 1 piece chairs for K-3.

I have Plateau tables from Virco. They are a NYS Bid Contractor.

I have 4 tables that are 30” x 60” and two ½ rounds that I put together to make a
round. The round seats 6. I got the shortest legs (you have to buy the legs
separately) and got locking casters/wheels. I can roll all 6 tables together to
make a long extended oval, conference table, for meetings. 4 rectangles in the
center with a half round on each end. I’ve had them three years and they’re holding
up well.

My chairs are the Comfort Stackers with no arms. They are too big for the K’s but
we have faculty meetings, PTA mtgs and Board of Ed mtgs in my library, so I opted
for larger chairs.

I also need to replace my 20+ year old library furniture this year….So far I have
looked at furniture from Brodart, Gaylord and Highsmith. Gaylord wanted a huge
amount for shipping and handling so we will not be using them. I’m looking at round
tables 48” across with some sort of laminate color top.

I just finished getting new tables and chairs. I decided on Georgia Chair. Their
products are wonderful…solid and last for years. They make child through adult size
tables and chairs.

I ordered solid wood tables and chairs from Highsmith. You could probably get away
with four 72 x 36 tables. They seat six, especially the little ones.
*
I bought Bretford. They are very expensive but we had a special discount, and some
help paying. They are so sturdy and will last for years and years, and have a
laminate inset in the top of the table that cleans up very nicely.

Demco is my favorite business to work with. They will come out, measure, and then
figure out how to maximize your space.

We’ve used Adirondack Direct (www.adirondack.com) with great success. Anne
