Hi Jacqueline,
This is an area of interest for me, so I have a few resources to share.
1. I would commend to your attention the videos and related material from
the recently held Educon2.0 conference in Philadelphia. Many of the sessions
dealt with exactly what you are asking about. Access videos of most of the
sessions here <http://educon20.wikispaces.com/Agenda>.
2. There's a powerpoint <http://www.bobpearlman.org/BLC2007.htm>called
Getting and Assessming 21st Century Knowledge and Skills from Bob Pearlman
here. Bob is Director of Strategic Planning for the High Tech High Schools
that are sprouting up in California and is a great thinker. More from him
here. <http://www.bobpearlman.org/>
3. The National Commission on Teaching and America's Future (NCTAF) has
recently published a book called Building a 21st Century U.S. Education
System. The whole book is available online, chapter by chapter. Access it
here<http://www.nctaf.org/resources/research_and_reports/nctaf_research_reports/Buildinga21stcenturyu.s.educationsystem.htm>
.
4.The George Lucas Educational Foundation <http://www.edutopia.org/> has a
host of cutting edge ideas available in a variety of print and non-print
formats on their website.
5. Don't neglect my project's website, Educational Hotlinks for Middle
School People <http://tinyurl.com/l5xst>, which is teeming with greating
resources (not *just* for MS people).
6. There are the great discussion-starter videos Shift
Happens<http://youtube.com/watch?v=g9D0dcLZGj8>(
this is the original version, there are now many updates and remixes)
and Education
Today and Tomorrow<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnh9q_cQcUE&feature=related>from
YouTube and many other places.
7. Willard Daggett <http://www.leadered.com/>, located not too far from you,
is also doing some very interesting work in 21st Century schools and
learning.

I am not affiliated with any of these organizations (except the project I
work in #5) and am not endorsing any particular organization or product,
just pointing out their work.
Hope this is helpful to you. Sounds like a terrific project!

I'm a little confused from your post regarding whether the participants in
this planning will be teachers or students, or both. Some of the written
material might be a bit challenging for students, but I'm sure a lot of them
will benefit from engaging with the ideas.

Sincerely,
Jim Lerman
