Hello all,

A faculty member has asked me to help her locate a short story she
remembers from the past. Below is her request:

Help!

I am trying to remember the title of a short story I read several years
ago. I thought it was written by O. Henry, but could be another author.

It takes place in the countryside where a man comes to visit friends
(relatives?). The adults are not home, but the man is directed to a
room where the young daughter keeps him company. The daughter tells the
man about the ghosts that walk in the fields every evening that you can
see from the window. Sure enough at the exact time, 2 figures appear in
the distance. The man freaks out thinking they are the ghosts. It
turns out the daughter is a trickster and the figures are actually
hunters returning home.

Thanks so much for any assistance you can offer.
