Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! I only received a few responses so I guess not much has been done with this book yet. I've decided to read this in parts to my classes. I made color copies of the "Medieval Manor" map from the front of the book, laminated them, and will pass one out to each student so they can follow along with the characters and setting while I read. I can email you the resized (8x14) color map if you want so you don't have to go through all the scanning and page matching that I had to do since we don't have a color xerox machine. Here are the responses I received: - We used it with a 5th grade library class - some students practiced and read some of the pieces and we discussed how many kinds of books can be used for research. It was very successful. These students are studying this Medieval time period in history and it fit so well. - I recorded the author introducing and reading a bit of the book. It might give you some thoughts. The book is wonderful monologues -- so real and alive, yet from a different time... http://www.teachingbooks.net/CC/7/Newbery - After a brief conversation about the Middle Ages, and boar hunting in particular, I read aloud the first monologue (Hugh the nephews son, I think) - to my 5 & 6th graders. You could have heard a pin drop - they all loved it!! I was thinking about reading aloud the "half-wit" one since I think it's fantastic, but I didn't.
