Jeff -- I'm so sorry this has happened to you.  Middle schoolers love  
irreverent.  I'll bet a lot of your students look forward to Mad.   
Even if you decide not to defend stocking this particular magazine, it  
is completely defensible to have something to draw in those kids who  
think that reading is dull or lame or too hard for them.

Just want you to know, I ate up every issue of Mad magazine when I was  
a kid, much younger than middle school.  I especially loved the  
fold-in pictures, which were pretty much always rude.  It was perfect!  
  It was funny.  It also was droll and made me think.  My sister and I  
would roll around in fits of hysteria when we didn't even really get  
the jokes.

And I was a shy, academically excelling, polite little girl.
