Dear LM-Netters: The chair of the Social Studies department is looking to incorporate literature in the honors classes for grades 9 and 10. She is looking for information on best curricular practices and titles of novels about contemporary Africa. I have forwarded her some information and recommendations already, but I thought I would ask the LM-NET community. I have recommended the following books: Things Fall Apart Chinua Achebe (possibly too advanced and not contemporary enough) Chanda's Secrets Allan Stratton (Lexile possibly too low for high school honors) The Syringa Tree Pamela Gien (Was a play before becoming a novel; not much literary criticism other than book reviews) Thanking you in advance.
