Registration is now open for the International Assocation of School
Librarianship’s 2008 conference at the University of California,
Berkeley, 3 – 7 August 2008.

This year’s theme is World-Class Literacy Through School Libraries.
Conference presentations range from distance learning to book clubs,
Web 2.0 tools to facilities planning, storytelling to information
literacy. Hands-on workshops, a poster session, professional papers,
and Research Forum bring a range of perspectives from around the world.

This year’s plenary speakers are Stephen Krashen, author of The Power
of Reading; James Herring; David Loertscher; and Ann Carlson Weeks of
the International Children’s Literature Database.

Preconference workshops on 3 August focus on Web 2.0, embedding inquiry
into research units, podcasting, advocacy, acceptable use policies, and
book talking.

Additional special events, including a winery tour in California’s
noted Napa Valley vineyards, are also offered.

We will convene at the Clark Kerr Conference Center, located
approximately one mile from central Berkeley. Located a short drive
from San Francisco, Berkeley is well-known as a center of intellectual
thought, multiculturalism, and civil rights activism. A short drive
from San Francisco, famous for the arts, Golden Gate Bridge, the
Haight-Ashbury district, the Crookedest Street in America, Ghiradelli
Square, and the Pacific coastline, Berkeley is also a short drive from
natural showpieces like Point Reyes National Seashore and Muir Woods.

We hope you will join us for this unique opportunity to hear
outstanding American voices blend with innovative international
perspectives – at domestic airfare prices!

You can learn more, download a registration form, and view a
preliminary conference schedule at http://iasl-online.org .
