"Looking for Alaska" is an Alex Award winner, which denotes the best ADULT
books for Young Adults. Based on this award alone I would probably NOT
place the book in the middle school. I do have it in my high school, in
fact our Student Council purchases Alex Award books to honor the School
Board every year. I think that it would be tough to win a challenge on an
adult book in a middle school collection.

I used this book with my high school book club, and still required that
students have a parent permission form signed in order to read it.
Personally, I would not put it on the shelf in a middle school. I just don't
think that age group has the maturity for this book.
