I have a pizza party or give ice cream coupons to all the kids who complete
the public library summer reading program.  The outreach librarian comes and
gives a summer reading pep talk to all the students and last night, she came
to our book fair family night and gave out library cards.  We also
acknowledge the students who complete the program (hardly rigorous, but an
easy way to track the kids who read in the summer) on the morning news.
This summer's theme is "Catch the reading bug!"  If we have 100 students
bring in their certificates next fall, my principal has agreed to eat a bug
on the morning news.  He's a trooper!  (He also brags about eating fried
crickets in Mexico, so I corralled him into doing this)
