I am a school librarian, and I want to keep my library (7th and 8th grades) open during the summer. I have heard of other small town librarians doing this. My principal is supportive. I have to write a small proposal for my superintendent to get his permission. I was thinking at least once a week or maybe even twice a week. I even thought of having the students sign contracts about responsibility and so on. Is it an issue with kids not returning books? Do you open check-out to kids who are not enrolled in school? I would like to hear from other librarians who have had a summer school library program. Thanks so much!
