Lisa,
Sorry that you did not get the position. Same thing happened to my
wife. I think the schools are looking for a Technology integration
specialists, but they umbrella it under Librarian/ Media Centre
Specialist). So next time, tell them that you are a librarian, but do a
Technology Lesson (eg Integrate a data base (library work), let the kids
copy and paste from the database onto a Powerpoint slide, let them save
onto a flashdrive or a disk, and let them Print their work.

This shows to the interview team that you can keep the kids busy
"technology wise'.

Do not be discouraged, as they lost an excellent Librarian. I always
maintain that the term and position LIBRARIAN stood the test of time,
and that Tech Integration specialists will be no more in 10 years as the
Colleges now teach the students all the technology as part of the
education courses.

Subject: Interview, technology and bragging

Five candidates were interviewed. I was in the 9:00 to 11:00 time along
with another female. The other time slot was 1:00 to 3:00. We had four
half-hour parts: team of teachers, superintendant, principals, and a
lesson that was videotaped as I taught fourth graders a lesson on
technology and library skills. At 4:28 a voice mail message said :"Your
interview was great, but we have gone another direction." I called and
thanked the principal who left the message and asked for tips on how I
could have done better. (I wonder how they made a decision in the time
between 3:00 and 4:28 if they had five half-hour videos to watch, confer
with each other, call references, contact the two candidates who got the
two jobs and call me.) He said: "The teacher team wanted you to brag
more-especially about technology." Has anyone else had something similar
happen? How does one brag-especially about technology during an
interview? I have taken tech. classes, am licensed, have an M.A., nine
years teaching/library experience, talked about software I use and an
online book club that I started, but it wasn't enough. Any ideas for
future interviews?

Thanks,

Lisa McLean, M.A.
