Shonda's story about her children's reaction to a rotary phone reminded me of when I got the last typewriter in the school out toward the end of the year because the secretary and I had to type some coupons. I was unprepared for the amount of interest it would generate. The kids were fascinated by this "new" piece of equipment and I overheard one of them say "I know what this is. It isn't a computer. It's a type a writer. My grandma has one." Several times I had to stop and give a demonstration and to embellish it a bit, I even told the story of how we had to take "typing" in high school, and our typewriters didn't even plug in! Several kids volunteered that they thought they could be able to "work it." It was fun.
