The GT teacher and myself do morning announcements and we've turned it into a
grouping of various topics that include new book announcements, sometimes reviews,
poems, and quotes. We also end each morning with a quote and make it directly
applicable to the kids through dialogue.

We also do a vocabulary word of the week and introduce the word not by definition
but in a dialogue between two people, giving students context clues to help define
the word. We also introduce a number and students can submit quesses as to what
would equal that number, such as, What is 52? Students can then answer with 52x1,
25x2, or whatever they are comfortable with. All students who participate have
their names entered in a drawing for a free book of their choice from an assortment
that I have.
We also mention things that are happening in the library, such as research,
speakers, genre or author focus, etc.

Those are some of the things that we do but information literacy is generally not
addressed outside of new books, reviews, and directing kids to the library for
information on a particular subject that might be of interest to them.

Reading is not a duty, and has consequently no business to be made disagreeable.
