All of our morning news and announcements are done over our TV station. The Broadcasting class is responsible for the program. I have used the program for several purposes: To highlight some new books - students have done book talks. To promote an activity held in the library - this Thursday we are having a Fair Trade fair for folks to purchase Christmas gifts. I am not sponsoring it - Student Council is- but the majority of student events are held in the library - so I tend to celebrate these over the news (along with the sponsor) To ask specific students to report to the library (over due materials or materials on reserve for them) To highlight a database - and give some interesting tidbits of its use for current assignments To promote an activity being held at the public library I also make sure promotional videos, commercials for events in the school, etc. are video taped in the library. We just had a Halloween costume contest (sponsored by Student Council) but the commercial featured me giving a prize to 2 students as a promo. I guess I just use the TV station to promote the library subtly or in their faces every chance I get. It is all about promotion and service! If you could promote school morning shows, what would be the most important reason for having one?
