I am more aghast that she would name her child Mowgli and less appalled
by the mistaken attribution. The girl is a teen mother in a celebrity
family with much less sense (& education) than money. I wouldn't be
surprised to learn that she is unaware that it was a piece of literature
long before Disney optioned it! But seriously, Mowgli?? No matter how
much I like the story, the name doesn't work for me out of a literary

Unfortunately - these are the people that think Disney also wrote
Winnie-the-Pooh, Cinderella, Snow White, The Black Cauldron, etc,
etc.?Isn't Ashlee Simpson on Zoey 101 a Disney Channel show?? They
probably thought they were being clever in making the connection.? This
type of thing usually leads to my library lessons on original authors
and illustrators.? It's sad how many of these types of mistakes (the
historical ones REALLY bug me) are made by TV commentators. Nancy Clark

Hi All-
On Friday evening the TV was on and one of the entertainment shows were
being broadcast. I was not really watching but heard something very
interesting. The news person was announcing the birth of Ashlee
Simpson's new baby, Bronx Mowgli.
She went on to say that Mowgli was a famous Disney character.
I was agast as I know that Mowgli is the main character in the Jungle
Books by Rudyard Kipling. Kipling's book was published in 1894, several
years before Walt Disney was born.
