Thank you to everyone who responded to my request for Grant information (technology/equipment)I'm posting the replies I recieved because I'm sure this information will be useful all around. -Melissa My Post: I was wondering if you could recommend any grants or mini grants for technology access, or have a good source of where to search for grants. Here is the details: In my previous postion My library had a smartboard and ceiling mounted projector that I ended up using pretty much daily. ne of the things I noticed in my buildings, is that, while this district is very technology savy, and has excellent opportunities for training in tech and access to tech for the classroom teachers, that the libraries have not moved into the "media center" world. Only 12 years old this library is beautiful, my issue to make it functionable. The Tech coordinator and I spent all morning hauling around a giant screen (the type that swing around) I was on the floor and standing on desks, and it will all have to come down next time someone needs the screen. We do have access to a projector, but no laptop to hook into it, so I had to unplug one of my 4 student computers and in general it was a big production. Right now half the screen is hidden behind the 4 study carrols, but it was the best I could do. I want to start tallks with the Technology Director about what we can do to make this library turn into more of a media center, and was thinking maybe writing some mini grants to get my story area a screen (or smartboard for a bigger grant) or a mounted projector, or a laptop, or even just wireless keyboards and mice, anything to help. Responses: Have you considered having a book fair? I have used book fair profits for these types of purchases. Ours has several technology grants.... Another thought is the Bill/Melinda Gates Foundation... Patricia White LMS Wright City Middle School Wright City, MO pat.white@wrightcity.k12.mo.us Melissa, I signed up for the eSchool Grant Newsletter ($35) and it's friggin' sweet! I would forward it to you, but I'm sure I'd be breaking copyright or something (considering it's a paid subscription). Basically it lists all the grants by closest due date to furthest away. I was going to print off a copy, but the print cue was something like 40+pages. Lots in there that you could peruse... Hope that helps, Josh Mika LRC Director Beebe Elementary Here's one source of grant information: http://www.edutopia.org/grantinfo <http://mail.dallassd.com/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.edutopia.org/grantinfo> There's also a nonprofit called SMARTer Kids Foundation that helps with funding Smartboards and projectors: http://www.smarterkids.org/ <http://mail.dallassd.com/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.smarterkids.org/> Good luck!
