Take a look at Lois Lowry's A Summer to Die. The 13-yr old narrator's older sister
has cancer.

Subject: Looking for fiction books about disease...

Our sixth grade teachers would like to offer to their students various
fiction books dealing with disease. I have some, but would love
suggestions. In particular, the book must be appropriate for a 6th grade
audience and actually treat the disease as a topic/focal point, not just
mentioned that it was there. It can be any type of fiction as long as the
disease is discussed clearly and, basically, as though it were a character
itself.

Thanks in advance for your assistance expertise!
