The Library of Congress has an online display
http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/oz/

with specific information about the slippers here:
http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/oz/ozsect2.html

There is a brand new site with background about Baum and Oz from the
makers of a documentary about Dorothy, including video clips from Baum
descendents and Oz scholars.
http://rediscoveringdorothy.com/

We can all thank Baum's mother-in-law, Matilda Joslyn Gage, for saying,
"Frank Baum, you're a fool if you don't write down those stories." Baum
was strongly influenced by Gage, a suffrage leader (too radical for
Stanton and Anthony) and abolitionist, who in turn, was influenced by
the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois).

says Dorothy's shoes were silver.

I have only heard of the ruby red slippers. I don't have a copy of the
book, but can anyone give me a clue as to why there is conflict in
information (beside the response that answers.com was wrong).
