Thank you, all, for your wonderful response to my quest for K-1 Holiday Book
Favs! Thought I would pass on your ideas.

My all-time favorite - and can be used by anyone is the book: Mr.
Willowby's Christmas Tree by Robert Barry. A great read-aloud picture book
with an emphasis on the festive season. Mr. Willowby buys the biggest tree
he has ever had. But it is too tall for his hall, so the butler cuts the top
off, gives the top to the upstairs maid who also has to trim it - and so on
where the last bit finally ends up is really neat. This is one that the
kids really like.

Hi Christine,

Here are a few that the kindergartners I've worked with really loved:

Halloween
- The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams
(a deliciously spooky story that makes a great read aloud and is also fun to
have the kids act out)

-Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper
(a funny story about (sometimes difficult) relationships with friends and
the importance of working together)

Thanksgiving
- Gracias the Thanksgiving Turkey by Joy Cowley
(a Puerto Rican boy in New York City grows attached to the turkey destined
to be Thanksgiving dinner, also available in Spanish)

Christmas
- Too Many Tamales by Gary Soto
(a nice story about a holiday cooking tradition and family relationships,
also available in Spanish)

- Bear Stays up for Christmas by Karma Wilson
(a cute story about friendship and holiday preparations)

Hannukah
-Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins by Eric A. Kimmel
(a clever Caldecott Honor book about a man who saves the holiday by
outwitting goblins intent on ruining it.)

Hope there are a few there that are helpful to you!
