Dear LM_Netters, I've had an interesting request from a special education teacher who uses the Holt Online Literature Textbook very successfully with her students. It allows them to quickly and easily access the Holt website from home to listen to the full-text of various poems, short stories, and book exerpts. These students have reading disabilities and one in particular is severely visually impaired. This system has worked beautifully for them up until now. The teacher wants her students to read Night by Elie Wiesel beginning in mid November and Othello next spring. Neither work is available through the Holt program. Our technology director sent her to me to find an alternate source for online audio. I've never dealt with this before and wondered if any of you can offer me some guidance. I've done some background research (Bookshare.org) and learned about what I now know is called text-to-speech audio, but this seems like a very complicated route to take. What we're looking for is a simple solution that all 10 of these students can access from home online without intervention from our tech staff. Does such a solution exist? TIA for your help. Marie A.
