Hear, hear!

All college of education profs please note this missive. If you're in my area, I'll
come in and talk to your classes at any time. I'm cheap. I'll even work for tuna
sandwiches. (No pickle relish, please. Just tuna and mayo on rye.)

Add to that--why don't administrators and faculty sometimes understand that having
a LMS can save bottom-line money in materials loss? It's amazing how fast they come
around when you hand 'em the dollar signs.

I've seen a lot of great ideas for promoting ourselves in a positive way
to our co-workers, and I really appreciate the time everyone is taking
from busy schedules to participate in the discussion. It seems like this
might be a good time to ask a question that's been bugging me for
awhile:

Why are teachers and administrators still earning degrees and
certifications without ever being taught anything about information
literacy and the role of the media specialist? (You could probably add
on "the role of..." ed tech specialists, literacy coaches, etc., but
since we so often wear those hats too, please read it as assming those
are included.)

When so much has changed so fast, I can understand why I have to educate
older teachers about these things, but why do I have to repeat the
process time and again with those who are fresh from a teacher (or
admin) education program? Is there a way we can effectively lobby for
the curricula of these education programs to include coverage of
information literacy, with technology literacy and all the other
related literacies, and coverage of how to collaborate with the folks
who need to teach those things through the regular classroom without
actually having a traditional class on the topic?

Or am I just a few books shy of a full shelf?

Thanks, and have a great Halloween!
