A recent post reminded me of issue of Entertainment Weekly from last month. The
edition included sections with lists of what they considered the 'new classics' for
film, music, theatre and books (as well as a couple others like fashion moments).
Their lists were quite interesting and I'd love to know what other folks think
about the books they chose to include. Everything on the lists is from between 1983
and 2008 (the last 25 years)

It was a double issue for the 999 and 1,000th issue, the dates listed on the cover
are June 27 & July 4 2008.

It also had a thought-provoking (I thought anyway) cartoon/short graphic novel type
piece (they called it a 'graphic personal essay')"about books other people says
'you gotta read' " by author Alison Bechdel.

Unfortunately, I looked on the EW site and this issue is not available in their
back issues store. There is a number to call if you are looking for an issue that
isn't listed, but their FAQ's also say if it's not listed it's because they sold
out of copies from their back stock.

When I googled it, I got this page from their archives which appears to have all of
the content, or at least a majority of it. It doesn't appear to have the Bechdel
piece, but does have their 100 list for books.

If you don't already get the magazine, it might be worth seeking out a copy or
going online to read a bit.
