"The plan is being proposed by John Wells, emeritus professor of phonetics
at University College London, according to a report in the London Times."
The London Times article has been mentioned on news programs here in
Australia.  It seems to be true, but most people think he is wrong.  Even
teenagers seem to think there is a time and a place for text messaging
spelling.  BUT a couple of years ago it was reported that students in New
Zealand would be allowed to use that spelling in their final exams!
