I teach children's literature at Wayne State (currently teaching LIS 6520 Children's literature for grades 4-8) online and use the organization you describe to teach the course: I break it up by genres. Older versions of the LIS 6510 Children's literature for preschool through grade three should still be available on Blackboard and you can login as a guest. (Or at least you should be able to.) This is the full link: http://blackboard.wayne.edu/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp?tab_id=_2_1&url= %2fwebapps%2fblackboard%2fexecute%2flauncher%3ftype%3dCourse%26id%3d_139 752_1%26url%3d Look for Winter 2006, the combined section. Go to the Discussion Board and you should see all kinds of books and lesson plans by genre. I know examples of chapter books and can find lists of those for each particular genre. However, I am having trouble coming up with picture books as an example of a genre. Thus far, I've thought of these: *Realistic fiction:* *Thank You Mr. Falker* *Historical fiction:* picture book versions of *Little House on the Prairie, Pink and Say, Goin' Someplace Special, Henry's Freedom Box* *Science fiction:* * Hedgie Blasts Off? , Commander Toad books, Zathura* ** *Fantasy: **Jumanji? *(would like to have some high fantasy picture books but can't think of any) *Mystery:* *The Missing Mitten Mystery, Mysteries of Harris Burdick, Piggins * ** I've searched the archives, internet, and Titlewave without much luck so I'm turning to this wonderful list for help. Would you please send suggestions? I will post a HIT if there's interest. Thanks in advance for your help.
