Dear LM_Netters,
I would like start a unit on genres (realistic fiction, historical fiction,
fantasy, science fiction, mystery) with my 4th and 5th graders and would
like to read a picture book as an example of the genre then follow up with
booktalks on chapter books of the genre. I know examples of chapter books
and can find lists of those for each particular genre. However, I am having
trouble coming up with picture books as an example of a genre.

Thus far, I've thought of these:
*Realistic fiction:* *Thank You Mr. Falker*

*Historical fiction:* picture book versions of *Little House on the
Prairie, Pink and Say, Goin' Someplace Special, Henry's Freedom Box*

*Science fiction:* * Hedgie Blasts Off? , Commander Toad books, Zathura*
**
*Fantasy: **Jumanji? *(would like to have some high fantasy picture books
but can't think of any)

*Mystery:* *The Missing Mitten Mystery, Mysteries of Harris Burdick, Piggins
*
**
I've searched the archives, internet, and Titlewave without much luck so I'm
turning to this wonderful list for help. Would you please send
suggestions? I will post a HIT if there's interest. Thanks in advance for
your help.

Melissa
