I am conducting a book election this year. I distributed nomination ballots to the
classroom teachers. The five books receiving the most votes in each of three
categories (picture books, easy chapter books, and advanced books) will be
officially nominated on Monday, September 22. Students will be encouraged to
campaign for their favorite titles, and the general election will be held the week
of the "other" election. The books receiving the most votes in each category will
be declared the winners. I plan to write the winning books' authors (if possible)
notifying them of the election results.

In past years, I held a favorite author election near the end of the school year.
Students came to the library to vote, and the winner was sent a letter of
congratulations. We received very nice replies, which I displayed on a library
bulletin board. It's been an enjoyable way to end each school year.

Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading,to make reading one of his
deep and continuing needs,is good for him.~ Richard McKenna ~
