Hi, Everyone, I just finished running circulation reports so I can create a "most popular books" display before our seniors leave, and here are the results. We've shared these lists on LM_Net in past years, and I love comparing ours to what's popular in other parts of the country. I hope it's ok to continue that this year. I've also thrown in my own personal top ten list from books I've read during this school year. It was difficult to narrow the list to ten--there have been so many great books published recently! Top Fiction at CFHS for 2008-09 1. Twilight, New Moon, Breaking Dawn, Eclipse (in that order) by Stephenie Meyer 2. Gym Candy by Carl Deuker 3. Boy Toy by Barry Lyga 4-5. (tied) Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson 6. Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr 7-8. (tied) Before I Die by Jenny Downham, Shattering Glass by Gail Giles 9. Guyaholic by Carolyn Mackler 10. (tied) Beastly by Alex Flinn, Right Behind You by Gail Giles, The Host by Stephenie Meyer, My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult, Flawless by Sara Shepard. Top Nonfiction at CFHS for 2008-09 1. Hole in My Life by Jack Gantos 2. Friday Night Lights by H. G. Bissinger 3-4. (tied) Sex for Guys by Manne Forssberg, Lucky by Alice Sebold 5. Katie.com/ A Girl’s Life Online by Katherine Tarbox 6. The Blind Side by William Bayer 7. Go Ask Alice by anonymous 8. A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer 9-10. (tied) Wasted by Marya Hornbacher, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls (If I merged the two lists, Hole in My Life and Friday Night Lights would be #9 and #10.) My Personal Top Ten I’ve Read This School Year (It was very difficult to leave some off the list!) 1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins 2. Graceling by Kristin Cashore 3. Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen (an "adult" book) 4. Nation by Terry Pratchett 5. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman 6. Before I Die by Jenny Downham 7. The Host by Stephenie Meyer (only because I read Breaking Dawn before school started, so I didn't count it for this year's top ten) 8. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta 9. Impossible by Nancy Werlin 10. The Percy Jackson series so far by Rick Riordan (Just missing the top ten on my list are Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin and The Dead Fathers Club by Matt Haig) ------------------------------------- Kelly Stern Teacher Librarian Cedar Falls High School Cedar Falls, Iowa sternk@cedar-falls.k12.ia.us -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
