Thanks to all the responses to my request of optimum temperature to prevent mold
growth on books during the summer. With many superintendents looking to cut costs
locked down thermostats are being considered. Many of you suggested it is really
the humidity that is responsible for the mold. Below find copied a portion of a
textbook with the information we were seeking.

In one of my textbooks - Administering the School Library Media Center (4th
edition-revised and expanded), published in 2004 -author Betty J. Morris
page 277 states "A form of ventilation should be installed that will keep a
temperature range between seventy and seventy-five degrees and a humidity reading
of approximately sixty percent (Main Association of School Libraries, 1999). Air
conditioning is apparently the most efficient and, in the long run, most economical
method of ventilation. As with lighting, temperature control facilities should
allow for flexibility in space division."

Page 276 says "An independent system for heating and cooling is desirable because
it allows the media center to be restricted form the rest of the school. "

Thanks again for your answers.
