I really appreciate the few on our list who take the time to read and
post reviews. While it would be wonderful to have these few post
everything each of us perceives we need to make informed decisions, I
still think it's up to each of us to know what we are purchasing. The
grade level is a great idea. As to appropriateness, that's more
individual and according to your needs. What works in one district, may
be poison in another.
This is a great discussion, tho!

Subject: Re: [LM_NET] Book review posts

To David and Karen as well as my esteemed cohort,

Just to clarify, I am not objecting to librarians who are asking for
more information about a title like perhaps, very YA , graphic sex, many
f-bombs. Or as I like to say- too much sex, drugs and rock-and-roll for
my collection. It's just that I don't want anyone to come back to me and
say hey why didn't you tell me the x happened on page 62, I never would
have bought that book. The Bank Street Colleges Children's Book
Committee's Best Books of the Year, an annotated list of recommended
titles put the letter M for mature with titles that are for 14 and up.
What do you think? Is that a good way to give someone a heads up so that
if they want to read it themselves to evaluate, they wouldn't feel
blindsided? -

Lisa
