Thanks again to all who responded. Here is the list of titles I received: Stone Fox (2nd/3rd grade) Look at Power of Un by Nancy Etchemendy - the story is good, sort of video gamish, it generates some critical thinking questions, and people who think they don't like Science Fiction will change their mind after reading it! Ages 8 or 9 to 12. From amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Power-Un-Nancy-Etchemendy/dp/0439313317/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1249247222&sr=8-1 ___________________________________________________ Julie of the Wolves A Year Down Yonder Long Way from Chicago Where the Red Fern Grows Matilda Boxcar Children Magic Tree House (especially with a couple of the research guides included) Bailey School Kids Charlie and the Chocolate Factory / or Great Glass Elevator Sign of the Beaver ___________________________________________________ Mallory by Laurie Friedman Emma Dilemma by Patricia Hermes Blast to the Past! by Stacia Deutsch and Rhody Cohon ___________________________________________________ I'm coming at this from a teacher's point of view, having just moved from the classroom (I've taught 3-5) to the library. Here are some that my kids loved to read, though: Frindle by Andrew Clements (3-5) A Week in the Woods by Andrew Clements (5th grade +) actually, almost any Andrew Clements - No Talking is another fav for 3-5 Hatchet by Gary Paulson (5+) Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio by Peg Kehret (3-5) * a great bio A Time for Andrew by Mary Downing Hahn (4-5) Ronda Y.
