Stone Fox (2nd/3rd grade) 

Look at Power of Un by Nancy Etchemendy - the story is good, sort of video gamish, 
it generates some critical thinking questions, and people who think they don't like 
Science Fiction will change their mind after reading it! Ages 8 or 9 to 12. From

I'm coming at this from a teacher's point of view, having just moved from the 
classroom (I've taught 3-5) to the library. Here are some that my kids loved to 
read, though: 

Frindle by Andrew Clements (3-5) 
A Week in the Woods by Andrew Clements (5th grade +) 
actually, almost any Andrew Clements - No Talking is another fav for 3-5 
Hatchet by Gary Paulson (5+) 
Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio by Peg Kehret (3-5) * a great bio 
A Time for Andrew by Mary Downing Hahn (4-5)
