Hello Collective Brain,

This movie was on TV the other night.  I remember reading the book as an 
adolescent.  Was this a YA book?
I used to get a ton of books from the Scholastic Book Club.  Is it possible this 
was a choice in the early 1970's?

I've looked at some online databases (very superficially) and haven't found out 
anything about the author or how the book
was received when it came out in the early '60s.  I would appreciate it if anyone 
could point me in the right direction.
